Recommended hotelsThe Prahova Valley brings together the mountain resorts of Sinaia, Busteni, Azuga and Predeal, just 1–2 hours from Bucharest along the DN1. In winter, the slopes at Cota 1400 (Sinaia), Cota 2000 (Busteni) and Sorica (Azuga) draw both beginner and advanced skiers. In summer, the trails in the Bucegi Massif (Babele, Caraiman, Omu) offer spectacular views. Hotels range from traditional 3★ guesthouses to 4★ resorts with spa, indoor pool and premium restaurants.

December–March for skiing and snowy landscapes (peak season: Jan–Feb). June–September for hiking, pleasant temperatures (15–24°C) and festivals. May and October are shoulder seasons, ideal for spa and quiet.
Sinaia for Peles Castle, spa and the Cota 1400 slopes. Busteni as a base for the Bucegi Massif and the cable car up to Babele. Azuga for accessible skiing and a winery. Predeal — the highest town in Romania, ideal for gentle hikes.
By car: 100–130 km on the DN1/E60, roughly 1h30–2h. By CFR train: direct InterCity trains from Gara de Nord to Sinaia (1h50), Busteni (2h05), Predeal (2h20). Book early on winter weekends.
Book 4–6 weeks ahead for January weekends, the 1 December holiday and the winter break. On the DN1, snow chains are mandatory when the authorities require them. Check the slope conditions in the morning (official forecasts & webcams).

Talk to a consultantSinaia is the favourite choice: it has the Cota 1400 slope for beginners, ski schools with instructors for children, attractions such as Peles Castle and a centre with family-friendly restaurants. Many hotels offer spa and indoor pools.
The ski season usually starts in mid-December and runs until the end of March. In fickle weather it may begin later — Cota 2000 (Busteni) is the highest and has snow even into April.
Popular options are International Sinaia, Rina Sinaia, Hotel Caraiman (Busteni), Piatra Mare (Predeal) and New Montana (Sinaia). All include a wellness spa with sauna, jacuzzi and, in many cases, heated indoor pools.
No — Peles Castle is closed on Tuesdays. On the other days, the schedule varies by season (typically 9:15–16:15 in summer, more limited in winter). Last entry is 1h before closing. Book your ticket online on weekends and in busy seasons.
1h30–2h in normal conditions to Sinaia on the DN1 (E60). On winter and summer weekends, traffic can double the time — set off before 8 in the morning or after 8 in the evening. The A3 motorway to Ploiesti cuts 20–30 min off the journey.
