Your holiday in Fuerteventura
Charter holiday with flight, accommodation, transfer and free concierge.
Sand dunes, endless beaches and steady wind for kitesurfing — Fuerteventura, the Canary island with sunshine all year.
Fuerteventura is the Canaries' beach island: miles of golden and white sand, turquoise lagoons and dunes that roll down to the ocean. The whole island is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and the steady trade winds have made it a favourite with windsurfers and kitesurfers.
With a mild climate all year round, it is also a great choice for a winter beach holiday, a few hours' flight from Romania.
Top attractions in Fuerteventura
The Corralejo dunes
The natural park in the north of the island is a small desert of white sand running into the ocean, with wide beaches and clear water. From the dunes you can see across the strait to Lobos and Lanzarote.
Isla de Lobos
A small island nature reserve a few minutes by boat from Corralejo. The path around it climbs an extinct volcanic cone and drops down to La Concha bay, whose calm water is good for swimming and snorkelling.
Sotavento and the Jandía peninsula
In the south, the Sotavento lagoon fills and empties with the tide, and the constant wind has brought international windsurfing and kitesurfing competitions here. On the far side of the peninsula, wild Cofete beach is one of the most spectacular in the Canaries.
Betancuria
The island's former capital, founded in the early 15th century and tucked away among the mountains. The church of Santa María, the white houses and the scenic road there show another side of Fuerteventura, far from the beaches.
Everything you need to know about Fuerteventura
When to go to Fuerteventura
The island enjoys sunshine all year: around 20–22°C in winter and 26–28°C in summer, rarely more. Summer is the windiest season, perfect for kitesurfing; for calmer beach days, choose spring or autumn.
Where to stay
Corralejo, in the north, for the dunes, restaurants and nightlife; Caleta de Fuste, close to the airport, for families; Costa Calma and Morro Jable, in the south, for lagoons and long beaches on the Jandía peninsula.
Getting around
The airport–hotel transfer is included. Buses link the main resorts, but for Cofete, El Cotillo or Betancuria a hire car or an organised excursion is easiest. The road to Cofete is unsurfaced.
Local food
Try majorero goat's cheese, which has protected designation of origin, papas arrugadas (small potatoes boiled in salty water) with mojo sauce, roast kid and gofio, the toasted grain flour found in many Canarian recipes.
