Italy tours with flights from Romania

Tour with flight, accommodation, transfer, meals and activities included.

Italy tours, Italy — Tour

Rome, Florence, Venice and the Tuscan hills — art, history and Italian cooking, on a tour with every connection taken care of.

Italy has more UNESCO sites than almost any other country, and a tour takes you through the best known of them: the Colosseum and the Vatican in Rome, the Renaissance in Florence, the canals of Venice and the towers of San Gimignano.

Other routes head south to Naples, Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast, or north to the lakes. Everywhere, a long lunch with pasta, local wine and gelato is part of the experience.

What you will see on the tour

Rome and the Vatican

The Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Pantheon show ancient Rome, while in the Vatican you visit St Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel with Michelangelo's frescoes. The Trevi Fountain and Piazza Navona round off a walk through the centre.

Venice from the water

Built on more than a hundred small islands, the city is best seen from the water: by vaporetto along the Grand Canal, by gondola on the smaller canals or by boat to Murano and Burano, the islands of glass and lace.

The Tuscan hills

Between Florence and Siena, the Chianti area means vineyards, cypress trees and stone villages. The Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has the rolling hills of the postcards, and San Gimignano keeps its medieval towers.

The Amalfi Coast

The coast road runs high above the bay through Positano, Amalfi and Ravello, with colourful houses clinging to the cliffs and small pebble beaches below. It is usually combined with Pompeii and Naples, the city where pizza was born.

Everything you need to know before you go

When to go

April–June and September–October bring warm weather that is good for walking, and shorter queues at the museums. July and August are very hot in the cities, especially Rome and Florence, while winter is quiet and good for museums.

What you see along the way

The classic route links Rome, Florence and Venice, with stops in Tuscany at Pisa, Siena or San Gimignano. Other tours head south to Naples and the Amalfi Coast, to Sicily, or to Lake Como and Lake Garda. The exact stops are in each tour's programme.

Good to know

In churches, including St Peter's Basilica, shoulders and knees must be covered. Many cities charge a nightly tourist tax, usually paid at the hotel, and restaurant bills often include the ‘coperto’, a fixed cover charge for bread and cutlery.

Local food

In Rome try carbonara and cacio e pepe, in Florence bistecca alla fiorentina, in Naples a proper Neapolitan pizza, and in Venice cicchetti, small bar snacks served with a glass of wine. Artisan gelato is everywhere.

Frequently asked questions

What does a tour of Italy include?
The tour includes the return flight from Romania, accommodation along the route, transfers, and the meals and activities included in the programme, plus TravelTheme assistance throughout the trip. The exact route, meals and visits vary from tour to tour and are set out in each offer.
How long is a tour and what does the route look like?
The length varies from offer to offer. Tours usually link the big cities, with stops in smaller towns, from Tuscany to the Amalfi Coast or the northern lakes. The exact days, towns and visits are listed in each tour's programme.
When is the best time for a tour of Italy?
Spring and autumn are ideal: pleasant weather for walking, fewer visitors and, in autumn, the grape harvest in Tuscany. Summer suits the coast, but the art cities become very hot and crowded.
What documents do I need for Italy?
Italy is part of the European Union and the Schengen area, so a valid identity card is enough for Romanian citizens. You do not need any extra documents to visit the Vatican.
What currency is used in Italy?
The currency is the euro. Cards are widely accepted, but it is useful to carry some cash in small bars, markets and some villages. In cafés, an espresso drunk standing at the bar usually costs less than one at a table.
